Legal Skills Course (CPV/NKPD Kurz právnických dovedností)

Legal skills course is a mandatory course offered by the Center for Clinical and Legal Education to third years students of our Master Degree Programme. It aims to implement legal skills development into the curriculum and to prepare students for legal practice. The education is aimed at training of communication, presentation and analytical skills. It aims to develop skills important for all legal profession and during legal studies. The course is based on interactive modern methods of education, active involvement of students, their individual work and exercise of acquired skills.
Professional Skills Course (CPV/KPRDO, KPROD Kurz profesních dovedností)

Professional Skills Course is a mandatory course offered by by the Center for Clinical and Legal Education to first year students of our Bachelor Degree Programme “Law in Public Administration”. It aims to provide better understanding of the profession of an officer in public administration and to help the students to develop necessary skills as well as better understand the ethical aspects of an employment in the area of public administration. The students also familiarise with basic legal regulation in the area.
Active participation of students in lectures is emphasised. Extensive space is provided, in the course for application of the acquired knowledge and skills. Students participate in simulated activities such as a job interview, a communication with a superior and a subordinate or a communication with a client. Students learn to apply the “giving voice to values approach” developed by professor Mary C. Gentile.
It is also offered as an optional course for other Bachelor Degree students.

In this course students provide legal advice to real clients under the supervison of experienced legal professionals. students analyse different legal problems and apply knowledge acquired in substantive core courses as well as in courses different legal skills courses. An intensive weekend workshop is organised at the beginning of each semester for students involved for the first year (MSPP1 Students Law Office 1).
Street Law 1-2 (CPV/MPKD, MPKD2 Právo pro každý den 1-2)

Students taking this course become themselves teachers of law. The course is based on the proven fact that one learns the most when teaching someone else. By teaching basics of law in primary and secondary schools as well as NGOs, the students learn how to communicate often complex and hard to understand legal concepts to laics in a way comprehensible to them. Students, thus, learn to apply knowledge acquired in substantive core courses, they improve their legal skills including legal research or communication and presentation skills and, moreover, contribute to better understanding of law among laics.
Street Law for French (CPV/ESLFF Street Law for French)

Street Law for French is a French version of our general Street Law courses. The course was developed for French exchange students coming to Palacký University who will provide basic legal education for high school students learning French. Having regard to a demand of participating high school teachers a to knowledge of incoming university students, the courses in following areas will be offered: 1) international law (in particular human rights law), 2) European Union law and 3) basics of French legal system (in particular topics related to the State system, political system, constitutional law, eventually other topics as required by cooperating high schools). Foreign students will have the opportunity to discover and experiment with street law technics in seminars; they will also have the possibility to discuss their lesson plans. The course has a social dimension; the aim is to educate groups of high school students in law and, at the same time, help them improve their French. After completing the agreed number of courses, the high school students should be able to communicate and argument in French about legal issues and have an overview of the basics of French legal system, the country whose language they study. Through teaching, foreign students will learn how to convey to high school students legal issues to which may be hard to understand and to present them in a more accessible way which will help them to develop new communication, argumentation and presentation skills in general. Students will, thus, acquire the ability to communicate legal information in an effective and understandable manner. They will also have the opportunity to look at their knowledge from a new, comparative perspective and they will be confronted with different, culturally conditioned, views of high school students on basic legal institutes.
Moot Court for High School Students 1-2 (CPV/NSSŘ1, NSSŘ 2 Simulované soudní řízení pro studenty středních škol 1-2)

Students who wish to participate in the course must previously take the course CPV/MPKD Street Law 1 and any of Moot Court Competition courses proposed at the faculty.
Students enrolled in the “Moot Court for High School Students 1” draw up a fictional case and case-file suitable for the target group (high school students); the case should focus on a specific human rights issue. The students also prepare/review the competition rules and the code of ethics, they promote the competition and help to organise it.
Students enrolled in the “Moot Court for High School Students 2” coach a team of high school students who then participate in a Moot Court Competition, a simulation of proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights. They should prepare the high school students for both written and oral round of the competition, helping them to better understand law (in particular human rights and the European system of their protection) and to acquire their communication and presentation skills. The course also has a social dimension as it raises legal awareness in laic society.

Legal Internship (CPV/PP Právní praxe)

The aim of the course is to enable students to experience supervised legal practice in a law firm or other similar workplace. Students acquire basic practical skills and experiences relevant for their future legal career. The core of the course lies in fulfilling tasks assigned by a supervisor and is supplemented by seminars on general topics (professional ethics for legal practice, administrative acts, including accounting of legal services, management of work and time in legal practice, research - written oral presentation of a research summary, communication with a trainer), including a final evaluation and reflection of the acquired skills.
Internship at the Court (CPV/MOSS Odborná stáž na soudě)

It is a specific optional course which consists of an internship which the student conducts at one of the Czech courts. The internship shall be at least one month long and may take place at any moment during the academic year, including summer vacation. The student herself/himself agrees with the relevant officer of the court upon the conditions of the internship. The faculty provides any necessary cooperation.
Legal Information Systems (CPV/MCODE Vyhledávání právních informací)

The proposed course aims to teach the students how to use all functions of the Codexis information system in an effective manner in order to resolve legal problems. Students learn how to work with the system and to use its functions. In the second part of the course, students apply the acquired skills on practical case studies from various areas of law. The course is held in cooperation with experts on the Codexis information system.
Professional Ethics (CPV/MPE Profesní etika)

In the course Professional Ethics students are introduced to basic principles of professional ethics and responsibilities in the Czech Republic. The course focuses on all legal professions. The course uses practical form of education based on active approach of students, solving case studies, discussions with practicing lawyers and individual student work so that graduates are well-prepared for model situations that are likely to occur in their practice. To complete the course, students submit written assignment – an interview with a practicing lawyer focusing on professional ethics accompanied by their own reflection.
Negotiation Techniques in Legal Practice (CPV/MTVPP Techniky vyjednávání v právní praxi)

The course should help students become familiar with the possibilities of real legal negotiation in various model situations in common legal practice. They learn to perceive each negotiating situation in its context, the correct consideration of which can substantially help to achieve the objective. They practically test limits of some legal and non-legal arguments to achieve a successful negotiation outcome. They learn how to become flexibile in pursuing a goal. Students also learn a correct recognition of the achievable objective and how to asses an effective manner to achieve the best results, including a beneficial compromise.
Health Law (CPV/CKPP Zdravotnické právo)

The course acquaints students with basic elements of medical law from the perspective of the patient. Interdisciplinarity of the course is ensured by the participation of students from various faculties of Palacký University. The course will be realized in a practical form based on active approach of students, solving case studies, controlled discussions and independent work of students so that they are prepared for model situations that may occur in practice.
To obtain the colloquium, students have to attend the lessons and submit their part of the semester work.
Environmental Law Clinic (CPV/EPK-B Environmentální právní klinika)

The aim of this course is to enable those students who are interested in Environmental Law to deepen their knowledge and skills necessary to solve the case studies and test out the application of relevant statutes from environmental law on real cases and case studies. Course consists of six intensive blocks of four hours.
Patient’s Rights Legal Clinic (CPV/MKPP Klinika práv pacienta)

This course introduces students to basic elements of Medical Law in the Czech Republic from the patient's point of view. Interdisciplinarity of the course is provided by participation of students from other faculties of Palacký University. The course uses practical form of education based on active approach of students, solving case studies, managed discussions and individual student work so that graduates are well-prepared to model situations that are likely to occur in their practice. Practical element of the course consists of answering inquiries from the web-based advice service of League of Human Rights and semestral project dedicated to a practical issue.
Corporate Law Clinic (CPV/MKPPR Klinika korporátního práva)

The aim of the course is to develop practical skills in the area of corporate law. After graduating from the clinic, students should have a broader overview of practical aspects in selected areas of commercial law, practically test their argumentation and negotiation skills, speaking skills, analytical thinking and solving the issue in a broader context, as their decisions will influence their future direction and ultimately the end result of their endeavour.
Students will be divided into two or three equally large groups before the classes start. Each group will be assigned an identification of the subject of the rights they embody, its characteristics, interests and objectives that these subjects should achieve in subsequent seminars. With this in mind, students should approach other seminars, in the case of theoretical seminars, to obtain information from the content of presentations and through their inquiries on how to achieve their goals and then realize their goals at practical seminars.
The course will be divided into three thematic blocks, which will be connected to each other by outputs and all will focus on corporate law in relation to a joint stock company. Each of these blocks will consist of a pair of seminars, the first of which is always theoretical (in the form of a lecture) and the second practical in the form of an interactive case study in which students should demonstrate their knowledge of the topic and apply them in simulating case.
The groups, which will represent the individual pre-determined corporate figures of the corporate business, will have a consultation at the HAVEL & PARTNERS premises before each practical seminar with a coach available to frame the group's progress in order to ensure the basic case axis. However, the coach will in no way devise on behalf of the group of solutions, on his part it will only be limited consultation assistance to maintain the meaning of the clinic.
Asylum Law Clinic 1+2 (CPV/MKUC, MKUC2 Právní klinika uprchlického a cizineckého práva 1+2)

The course focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of asylum and immigration law. Within the practice students visit asylum centres, participate in legal counselling, search country of origin information, draft procedural documents. They may also participate in moot court competition dedicated to asylum and immigration law.
Human Rights Clinic (CPV/MLPK Lidskoprávní klinika)

This course enables students to meet with human rights in practice on the international and national ground. Course is based on practical seminars stressing on individual students work. Students solve real problems, they have contact with clients, they take part in human rights nongovernmental organizations’ work, thy analyse matters for legislative and judicial purposes and search for legal information and literature.
Mediation Clinic (CPV/MMK Mediační klinika)

The aim of the course is to support and develop mediation knowledge and practical skills, to orient students in the main problems of combining law with informal dispute resolution and mediation in interdisciplinary cooperation. Students will be more comprehensively prepared for their own legal practice with the possibility of choosing the most appropriate procedure for solving the case. The course gives an overview of the possibilities of dispute resolution and creates a broader basis for effective performance of the profession.
Students in real cases will analyse the dispute in terms of its nature and intensity. On the basis of the set criteria they select a case suitable for mediation and practically mediate in comedy with or under the supervision of the teacher. Evaluation of activities and development self-reflection will be an important part of the course. The subject assumes close cooperation with the Student Legal Advisory Centre and regional mediation workplaces according to their specialization. By solving the conflicts of community members, the Mediation Clinic will contribute to fulfilling the third role of Palacký University as an actor in social development in the region.
Students will be able to establish a respectful and trustworthy relationship with clients, to orientate in their conflict situation and to plan appropriate procedure in the application of mediation according to the subject of the dispute and the needs and interests of the parties. They will learn to structure the mediation process and to lead it using especially the techniques of active listening and negotiation. They will acquire the skills of self-reflection and responsive reflection of clients and their needs in solving conflict situations. The course will contribute to the personal and professional development of the student.
Antidiscrimination Clinic (CPV/NADK Antidiskriminační klinika)

The primary aim of the course is to help students gain familiarity with the topic that overlaps several legal disciplines and provide them with a complex insight into the area of anti-discrimination law, a specific field of human rights protection. Students will work in small groups and together with the supervisor of the course they will be solving specific cases of discrimination behaviour with a direct influence on threat to individual rights and freedoms.
Administrative Law Clinic 1 (CPV/MAPK Administrativně právní klinika 1)

The proposed clinic focuses on Administrative Law and Environmental Law. The course is divided into several practical blocks taught by qualified professionals, focusing on specific problems of Administrative and Environmental Law. During the course, students engage in solving theoretical and practical problems and they work on projects aiming to inform public about certain environmental problems.
