White Paper "Cellular Agriculture: the legal and ethical challenges of tomorrow's food" of the One Health Legal Clinic of the University of Paris-Saclay

Between global warming and demographic crises, it becomes necessary and urgent for humanity to implement sustainable processes to meet its food needs. Cellular agriculture, as a technique that allows the production of animal meat without industrial breeding or slaughter of animals, seems to be able to meet the challenges of the coming decades. At the heart of the One Health concept, cellular agriculture has many benefits for human, animal and environmental health. Consequently, this biotechnology holds out hope for meeting the challenge of feeding 10 billion people by 2050. Despite this, cellular agriculture is encountering political reluctance in France. This white paper is the first comprehensive study to highlight the legal aspects of cellular agriculture, an essential prerequisite for France to allow cellular agriculture to develop and find its place as a new ethical and responsible agricultural model.
